Fees at Davidson Creek Survey Results

Below are the results of the survey that was sent out on January 15 and 22 in the DCE Update.

1. Noon hour supervision fees are $75 for grades 1-6 students ($37.50 for Kindergarten). This program runs at cost. This fee provides sufficient supervision for the number of students who stay for lunch. This is $7.50 per month for grade 1-6 students and $3.75 per month for Kindergarten students. We hire individuals to supervise students outside during recess as well as while they eat.  Each individual supervises 2-3 classes while they are eating. Educational Assistants also help out with supervision.  Please share any thoughts regarding noon hour supervision.

  • I think the rates are very reasonable
  • Fees are reasonable.
  • Should be covered by our taxes not extra fees to the public.
  • sounds good :)
  • I think that’s more than a fair amount. Would be willing to pay more.
  • None

2. At Davidson Creek Elementary, Kindergarten Field Trip/Activity Fees are $100.  Kindergarten classes have gone to the Telus World of Science and had one session of swimming lessons that were covered by Field Trip/Activity Fees. Are you satisfied that this is a reasonable fee to charge our parents?

  • I would pay more for additional field trips
  • I would be willing to pay a bit more $100 to $125 to allow for more hands on, real life experiences for the kiddos

4. Grades 1 - 5 students took one session of swimming lessons at a cost of $65 per student. This cost will likely increase. Do we continue to offer this optional program at DCE?

2 Responses:

  • Yes you should! Our taxes are suppose to pay for our free education
  • This is so beneficial for the students.

5. Grade 4 - 6 students went skiing once during the school year.  This activity costs up to $45 per student.  This will likely be more expensive next year.  Do we continue to offer this optional program at DCE?

1 Response:

  • Yes you should! But no it’s unacceptable to be paying even more money.

6. We have many clubs/activities at Davidson Creek that are teacher-supported and do not usually cost money, although some do charge a per-student fee such as Lego Robotics ($20), Young Authors ($20), and WISEST ($40). Do you support charging a fee for registration and/or supplies for clubs?

1 Response:

  • The fee would not be an issue for our family, but I imagine it would for some. Could you set up a scholarship of some sort, so parents who are able to and want to can "sponsor" another child (i.e., just pay extra towards anyone who can't afford to pay? Annonymously for the giver and the recipient of course)

7. Davidson Creek has many sports teams that compete with other schools.  The registration costs are between $10 and $20 per-student participating.  Knowing that there is an associated cost to register for the meets, would you continue to support these teams at DCE?
