Important Dates

Class Photos

Monday Kindergarten classes, along with the rest of the school, will have their class pictures taken on Monday.  Tuesday's Kindergarten classes and Ms. Waits Gr.1 class will have their class pictures taken on Tuesday.


On Tuesday, our Mustangs will be cleaning up the schoolyard for Pitch-In. Thanks Mustangs for your part in cleaning up our community!

Professional Development Day

There is no school for students on Friday, May 17.  Teachers at Davidson Creek will be working with Jodie Carrington as well as deepening our understanding of conceptual-based learning.

Ron Kruhlak Youth Award

The Alberta Emerald Foundation believes in inspiring the next generation of eco-heroes by supporting Alberta’s youth in their environmental efforts. The foundation provides micro-grants of up to $400 to youth-led and youth-targeted environmental projects across the province. In addition, the Alberta Emerald Foundation strives to allocate over 100 Youth Environmental Engagement Grants every year.

From the dozens of grant recipients that were awarded this year, they select one youth-targeted organization to receive the Ron Kruhlak Award of $1,000 cash. This special prize honours Mr. Kruhlak’s extraordinary contributions to the Alberta Emerald Foundation over the past 24 years, while rewarding an inspiring youth-led or youth-targeted organization for their excellent environmental stewardship.

And this year, Davidson Creek is the proud recipient of the Ron Kruhlak Youth Award for our waste-free hot lunch program!

Entrepreneurial Adventures

The Davidson Creek Entrepreneurial Adventure club is pleased to inform you about the upcoming charity movie day at Davidson Creek Elementary on the afternoon of Thursday, May 16, 2019.

As part of Movie Day, we will be selling pizza, popcorn, and bottled water to the students. The pizza costs $2 a slice, popcorn is $1 a bag, and a bottle of water costs $1. Pizza order forms went home earlier this week with students. Please fill out and return the forms to school by May 15th. Popcorn and bottled water can be purchased on the day of the event, so please be sure to send money with your child.

All of the profits from the event will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.

One last fun note is that students are welcome to wear their pj’s and bring a pillow, blanket, and stuffy on the day of the movie.

Wellness Committee

Good mental health needs lots of good sleep! Proper sleep sets up our children for proper learning. Kids who consistently get a good night’s sleep:

  • are more creative and have more energy during the day
  • can concentrate, problem-solve, and remember better
  • can create and maintain good relations with others

The longer daylight hours of spring can make bedtime tougher. To help your child get a good night’s sleep:

  • Follow a regular sleep schedule – even on weekends. 
  • Turn off electronics at least 1 hour before bed.
  • Have a consistent, relaxing, wind-down routine 20-30 minutes before “lights out”. This could include bathing, reading, listening to music, or writing in a journal.
  • Have a comfortable sleep environment (e.g. cool and quiet).
  • Limit caffeine from pop, chocolate, etc.
  • Regularly eat healthy foods and exercise

Every child is different, but generally, school-aged kids (5-12 years) need 10-12 hours of sleep each night.
