Mustang Memo - June 21, 2024

Thank you to our sponsors!

We can't wait to end our week of fun events with a Davidson Creek tradition - the Summer Sizzler!

We know that it is a tough choice between watching the Oilers' game and coming to the Sizzler. The good news is that we will be streaming the game so you don't have to pick!

We have also increased the number of food trucks that are coming including:

  • Woodshed Burgers - gourmet burgers
  • Pull Me - smoked meats and poutine
  • Chee-Z-Q - macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, grilled cheese
  • White Rabbit - homemade ice cream
  • Casa12doce - Authentic Mexican food
  • Lemon Lagoon - fresh, hand pressed lemonade

The tunes will be pumping, faces will be painted, balloon animals will be ballooned! Bring a lawn chair, your cash and your readiness to have a great time!

See you there!

ACTION

Report Cards are Coming

You can read the final report card by going to Parent Portal. Not only will you learn about your child's success in Term 3, but you will also see the name of next year's teacher for students in grades 1-5!

Lost and Found

Have you seen the 8 tables covered in Lost and Found items. There are shoes, toys, pants, shirts - anything you can imagine is probably in there! Lost a sock? How about a fork? Your favourite expensive Tupperware lid? Come to the gym and look through the stuff to find your missing items!

OPPORTUNITY

Mabels' Labels

Did you know that we donate seven to eight bags of lost and found clothing to County Clothes?

Did you also know that we look for labels on clothes and deliver them back to students when we find a name?

Clothes are expensive! Why not label your child's clothing? If you order from Mabel's Labels the school council will receive 20% commission on all purchases. You avoid losing your child's belongings and support the school at the same time! Win-win!

Go the Mabel's Labels website and type our school name in the "find a fundraiser" box to order!

Meet the Staff August 28 - Save the Date

We want all of our families to feel ready for the first day of school without any worries!

We invite you to join us for our Meet the Staff event taking place on August 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This event takes place the evening before school starts so that students and families can come to the school, find classrooms and lockers and learn what doors to use when the arrive at school in the morning.

Our staff will be at school, ready to say hello and welcome our students back from a nice break!

We hope to see you there!

INFORMATION

WOW Wednesday Winners

Congratulations to Mrs. Hansen's Grade 4 class for winning the 2023/24 WOW Wednesday challenge! Their class had the largest number of students who walked or wheeled to school each WOW Wednesday for the year. For their efforts they won Jugo Juice for their class!

Fun Times at the Mustang Mention Prize Assembly

Thank you to our parent Wellness Committee led by Candice for collecting 140 prizes for our Mustang Mention prize assembly! We had so many names in the draw bin that is was hard to spin it and mix them up!

Thank you to our many sponsors who donated everything from scooters to basketballs to Dollarama gift cards to a week long gymnastics camp! Please take a peek at the businesses that supported our school in this week's Memo picture.

Meet Next Year's Teacher A Success

Today, students had a great time meeting next year's classmates and teacher. Grade 6 students helped students in younger grades to find their classroom for next year and then everyone had a chance to do some fun connection activities.

We know that sometimes getting details from your child might be tricky! Just in case you ask, "who was the teacher" and they say "I don't remember", we have a plan! Every student received a postcard from next year's teacher. Check your child's backpack for the paper so that you can see who they met!

Just a reminder that we will not be making changes to class assignments. As shared in the Memo on May 15 and May 24 as well as in our May and June school council meetings, we are not accepting requests for classroom placements or switches from one class to another due to the complexity in creating balanced classes that maximize available supports in the school. Thank you for trusting in the professionalism of our team!

Summer Break

Davidson Creek Elementary will be closed for the summer. There will be no one working in our office to answer phones or questions. If you need immediate assistance Elk Island Public Schools Central Services is open, with the exception of statutory holidays. Contact the main office at 780-464-3477 if you have urgent questions or concerns during this time.

Our office will reopen on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

Parents Make the Difference

During this busy time of the year and with the summer holiday ahead, many parents are feeling the pressure of balancing life at home. Have you caught yourself raising your voice or feeling like a broken record? You are not alone! So what can you do?

Check out this short talk by clinical psychologist, Becky Kennedy, on how you can use boundaries as a parenting strategy to find peace again:
