November 22 Update

Parents as Partners - Drop off Zone

Let's work as partners, parents!  We all have a responsibility to get our children to school safely as well as to be courteous to others who would also like to get their children to school safely.  A few parents have brought to our attention many issues with traffic when dropping their child(ren) off at school. Below are some solutions.

  • The Drop off Zone is for drop off only.  You have 30 seconds to drop off your child.  PLEASE DO NOT WALK YOUR CHILD INTO THE SCHOOL WHEN PARKED IN THE DROP OFF ZONE.
  • Please keep the intersection of Davenport Place and Davenport Drive clear.  Please do not drop off your child at this intersection as it is dangerous and disrupts the flow of traffic.
  • Here is a map that shows other areas where you can drop off your children.
    • Look for the highlighted yellow areas for additional drop-offs
    • There is a path to the schoolyard marked in blue on Davy Crescent where you can park.
    • Please do not stop and drop off on the areas marked in red.
    • Please do not come into the staff parking lot.  There are two marked crosswalks that students use thus it is not safe to drive into the parking lot.

Important Dates

Hot Lunch Volunteers Needed

The Hot Lunch Committee is looking for volunteers! In order for us to complete the next round of hot lunch orders, our Hot Lunch Committee has asked that we secure volunteers first. Please sign-up here before December 9th! The next round of hot lunch orders is scheduled to be open for orders the following week, if we have enough volunteers.

Hat and Mitten Tree

We are collecting clean, gently used or new coats, mittens and hats for Hope Mission. Mittens and hats are being displayed on our Christmas Tree and coats can be dropped off in the office or brought to your child's class. All donations will be delivered to the Hope Mission in the last week of November.

Silver Bells Collection

Our Christmas Concert is on December 5th at Sherwood Park Alliance Church.  We will be having a Silver Bells Collection to cover the cost of renting this beautiful facility and to pay for busing for students for the dress rehearsal.  Any amount of cash is appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

Knick Knack Shack

Did you know that Davidson Creek Elementary now has it's very own upcycling site? Our School Council has created a site that you will be able to connect with teachers, school council or administration on the items that they are looking for and/or volunteer opportunities. These items might be for art projects, books for the classroom, or food to support our compassionate lunch program.

This site will be updated regularly as new items are listed so please visit often. Please contact the teacher prior to bringing items to the school for donation.

Thank you for your generosity and continuing support of Davidson Creek Elementary!

Wellness Committee

Do you enjoy counting down the days to the holiday season or any other event? Try an “Acts of Kindness” countdown! Students participated in Kindness Week at school this past week, so why not extend it for the rest of 2019! Some examples of spreading kindness are cleaning up someone else's mess-just because or leaving a happy note in a library book. For more ideas, check out Kindness Kids Can Do.

November 19th was International Men’s Day. It is a day to celebrate the important men and role models in our life. At DCE, we are fortunate to have several wonderful male teachers and staff. Here’s a “high-five” to Mr. Howell, Mr. Snaterse, Mr. Lobe, Mr. Versteegt, Mr. Miller, Mr. Parker, and Mr. Brouwer! Thank you for making a difference and for all you do.
