Mustang Memo

Dear Davidson Creek Community,
This upcoming week will feel unlike most others, with both important days of recognition and the possibility of job action adding a layer of uncertainty. On Monday, we recognize Orange Shirt Day and honour the truth and legacy of residential schools. This is always a solemn day in our school community, as we reflect on the importance of reconciliation and commit ourselves to ensuring that every child matters.
Last Friday, however, we experienced a celebration of hope and perseverance at our Terry Fox assembly and run. Our Grade 5 students led the assembly beautifully, reminding us of Terry’s courage and determination. Our student audience demonstrated incredible leadership, and we were so pleased to see the many parents who joined us in supporting this special school tradition. The day was bright and beautiful for our run, and it showcased the empathy, spirit, and resilience of our students, attributes that remind us of the strength of our Mustang community.
The week ahead is also shaped by two non-instructional days: Tuesday, September 30, there is no school in recognition of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, and Friday, October 3 is an EIPS professional learning day. With these days away from school and the potential of a strike on the horizon, it is understandable that families may feel unsettled. We should have more information early in the week about what’s happening regarding the potential strike.
What we want you to know is that Davidson Creek staff care deeply for your children and look forward to the time when we can be together again, whatever next week may bring. To help everyone be prepared, students will be instructed to bring home all personal belongings this upcoming week, including indoor and outdoor shoes, coats, lunch kits, and water bottles. It may be helpful if families can echo this reminder at home as well.
Through it all, one thing remains constant: Davidson Creek is a place where we belong. Our staff, students, and families form a community that is caring, resilient, and united. We are hopeful for a resolution and grateful for your continued support and partnership as we navigate this time together.
And finally, to help spark conversations around the supper table or during a car ride this week, here are a few questions you might ask your child:
- What were some different ways you showed “DCE Way of Life” this week?
- Being Kind
- Being Safe
- Being Respectful
- Being Your Best Self
As always, thank you for your continued support in helping make Davidson Creek “a place where we belong.”
