Mustang Memo - June 20, 2025

Another Mustang Mention goes to...

Rain, rain, go away!

This week our younger students had a good weather day for track and field fun but we had no such luck for our older students. The rain also delayed our Summer Sizzler which was rescheduled for this Monday. We hope that the weather will stay a sunny 16 degrees as predicted!

This week was exciting as we had our Mustang Mention prize assembly and our Meet Next Year's Teacher event. We would like to thank our generous sponsors and community partners for donating over 400 prizes to our big celebration! We are so proud of our students as they consistently demonstrated our expectations: be kind, be respectful, be safe, be your best self!

This week, we had an artist, Marliss Weber, visit the Grade 6 classes to finish a special student art project for our Grade 6 students to honour them as the first class who started in kindergarten and finished Grade 6 at our school. While she was working she mentioned how welcomed she felt by our students. She noted that they were consistently kind, friendly and welcoming. They thanked her for helping them and she was very impressed at how respectful and thoughtful they were. It is uplifting when guests of our school notice how great our kids are!

The final highlight of the week was Team 22's Wonder Word Parade! Have you ever wondered what an extinct carnivore looks like? We got to see students dressed up as their favourite wonder word which included an arachnid, a flightless bird, and kids who were mesmerizing, brave and sinister! What a fun idea!

We hope that you enjoy the weekend and prepare for the last three days of school!

ACTION

Report Cards are Coming

You can read the final report card on June 25 by going to Parent Portal. Not only will you learn about your child's success in Term 3, but you will also see the name of next year's teacher for students in grades 1-5!

Lost and Found

Have you seen the 8 tables covered in Lost and Found items. There are shoes, toys, pants, shirts - anything you can imagine is probably in there! Lost a sock? How about a fork? Your favourite expensive Tupperware lid? Come to the gym and look through the stuff to find your missing items! They will be packed up for donation by the end of the day on Monday!

OPPORTUNITY

Mabels' Labels

Did you know that we donate seven to eight bags of lost and found clothing to County Clothes?

Did you also know that we look for labels on clothes and deliver them back to students when we find a name?

Clothes are expensive! Why not label your child's clothing? If you order from Mabel's Labels the school council will receive 20% commission on all purchases. You avoid losing your child's belongings and support the school at the same time! Win-win!

Go the Mabel's Labels website and type our school name in the "find a fundraiser" box to order!

Meet the Staff August 27 - Save the Date

We want all of our families to feel ready for the first day of school without any worries!

We invite you to join us for our Meet the Staff event taking place on August 27 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This event takes place the evening before school starts so that students and families can come to the school, find classrooms and lockers and learn what doors to use when the arrive at school in the morning.

Our staff will be at school, ready to say hello and welcome our students back from a nice break!

We hope to see you there!

INFORMATION

Fun Times at the Mustang Mention Prize Assembly

Thank you to our parent Wellness Committee led by Candice for collecting over 400 prizes for our Mustang Mention prize assembly! We had so many names in the draw bin that we struggled to pick out names!

Thank you to our many sponsors who donated everything from bubble wands to sports balls to gift cards to pickle ball and badminton rackets! Please take a peek at the businesses that supported our school in this week's Memo picture.

Meet Next Year's Teacher A Success

This week, students had a great time meeting next year's classmates and teacher. Grade 6 students helped students in younger grades to find their classroom for next year and then everyone had a chance to do some fun connection activities.

Just a reminder that we will not be making changes to class assignments. As shared in the Memo on May 9 and May 23 as well as in our May school council meeting, we are not accepting requests for classroom placements or switches from one class to another due to the complexity in creating balanced classes that maximize available supports in the school. Thank you for trusting in the professionalism of our team!

Summer Break

Davidson Creek Elementary will be closed for the summer. There will be no one working in our office to answer phones or questions. If you need immediate assistance Elk Island Public Schools Central Services is open, with the exception of statutory holidays. Contact the main office at 780-464-3477 if you have urgent questions or concerns during this time.

Our office will reopen on Thursday, August 22, 2025.

Parents Make the Difference

During this busy time of the year and with the summer holiday ahead, many parents are feeling the pressure of balancing life at home. Have you caught yourself raising your voice or feeling like a broken record? You are not alone! So what can you do?

Check out this short talk about ways adults can use co-regulation to help children manage tough emotions in socially appropriate ways:
